June tournament – Lake Limestone

Our next tournament will be on June 10th on Lake Limestone. We will
launch from Limestone County Park #2. This is a public ramp located on
FM 3371 (just off hwy 937) just out of Groesbeck. This is a single
lane ramp but has much more turnaround room than at Sandlin and has ample
parking. Blast off will be at 545 a.m. or first safe light AFTER that.
Weigh in will be at 3 p.m. This lake is unfamiliar to most people in
the club so be careful while entering the coves on plane. 5 fish with a
14” minimum length limit.

Reminder

Don’t forget to make your reservations for the October 13-14 tournament
at Sam Rayburn. We are staying at Powell Park Marina. (409-584-2624)
I know this is a ways off, but these cabins are on the small side so
you will not be able to show up late and stay with someone. (most have
only a single room with 2 twin beds) You have to qualify for this
tournament either 1 of 2 ways. 1-fish 4 monthly tournaments (excluding
January) and/or 2-finish in the top ½ in points (made up of 50% of the
average number of entrants from each tourney) Now that I have totally
confused you, if you need clarification call Terry at 972-875-0221 (anytime
night or day).

Ennis Bass Club history

The club was formed in 1991 and started with only 8 members. The
largest winning total for a tournament to date is 26.56 pounds on Richland
Chambers in 2005 by Chuck Hortman and Chuck Allen.

Bass fishing history

The first ever bass fishing tournament was held in 1955 on, believe it
or not, Lake Whitney. It came about by Earl Golding (who used to write
for Honey Hole) who had been hearing all these claims at who was
catching the most fish on the new impoundment. So, Earl decided to put and
end to the speculation once and for all. 73 teams showed up to compete.
And the fishing was so shitty, they decided to never come back! (Not
really) It was so popular and he had so many calls after the event that
he decided to make it an annual event. It is now held at different
places under the name Texas State Bass Tournament and held for 52 years
straight.
